Role Summary

Executive Director, Security Architecture and Engineering at Amgen. Responsible for setting the strategic vision and leading security and protection capabilities across core domains including network, cloud, data, software, endpoint, mobile and AI. Defines and executes a strategic security architecture and engineering roadmap to deliver a secure, resilient, and compliant foundation enabling growth and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Defining Strategy – Establish and direct the enterprise Security Architecture and Engineering strategy and multi-year roadmap, aligning with digital trust vision and business priorities across protection domains.
  • Designing Architecture – Set architectural vision and governance for secure integration across platforms, driving consistency, scalability, and resilience.
  • Delivering Capabilities – Lead engineering, implementation, and operation of protection technologies including Zero Trust and AI security, meeting strategic milestones.
  • Ensuring Compliance – Oversee adherence to global regulatory, audit, and framework requirements (NIST, ISO, HIPAA, GDPR, GxP, 21 CFR Part 11).
  • Managing Operations – Direct global teams to deliver reliable, scalable security services with measurable SLAs and KPIs.
  • Collaborating with Stakeholders – Partner with CDT, Infrastructure, AI/Data, and enterprise leaders to embed security and trust into the digital ecosystem.
  • Allocating Resources – Drive investment and resource prioritization across architecture and engineering programs to maximize impact and reduce risk.
  • Developing Talent – Build, mentor, and retain a diverse global workforce of architects and engineers, cultivating next-generation leadership.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications: Doctorate with 6 years of cybersecurity experience OR Master’s with 10 years of cybersecurity experience OR Bachelor’s with 12 years of cybersecurity experience AND 6 years of managerial experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Expertise across cloud, data, network, endpoint, mobile, and AI security; experience leading large distributed teams; collaboration and influence skills; ability to manage multi-million-dollar budgets; experience in biotech/pharma or regulated industries; professional certifications (CISSP, CCSP, CISM); familiarity with Zero Trust and AI/ML security frameworks; strategic thinking; executive communication and stakeholder management; adaptability in fast-moving environments.
