Summary/Job Purpose
Executive Director, Scientific Publications leads publication planning and execution. Manages the Publications team, oversees publication planning for Exelixis development compounds, coordinates cross-functional/tactical execution, manages publication vendors, and ensures compliance aspects of the publication function.

Responsibilities
- Lead the Publications function (organization, hiring, employee development)
- Oversee publication planning for each development molecule (scientific platforms as needed, publication plans, cross-functional alignment, alliance partner coordination)
- Oversee tactical execution (concept development, data analysis, writing, editing as needed)
- Coordinate abstracts, posters, oral presentations, and manuscripts per publication plan timelines
- Oversee publication vendors (selection, contracts, budgeting)
- Oversee electronic support (publication portal and archives)
- Manage Publications SOP and review/approval process
- Operate in accordance with company SOPs and promote Good Publication Practice
- Collaborate with Medical Affairs to support functional deliverables
- Develop product/disease state expertise; stay current on the drug development environment

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise staff (hiring, scheduling, work assignment, performance review; recommend HR actions)
- Provide direction to others

Qualifications
- PhD/MD/PharmD with 15+ years related experience; or Master’s with 16+ years; or Bachelor’s with 18+ years; or equivalent
- Oncology experience highly preferred
- Pharmaceutical/biotech business experience
- Significant publication development, writing, and management experience

Skills/Knowledge
- Pharma/biotech regulations, guidelines, standards; health care compliance principles
- Lead initiatives, manage projects, work cross-functionally
- Skilled medical/technical writer; strong communication (written/verbal)
- Organized, self-motivated, problem-solving; independent ownership in a fast-paced environment

Working Conditions
- Periodic travel (~20%)

Education/Experience/Skills: Doctorate/Master’s/Bachelor’s as specified above.
