Role Summary
The Executive Director of Enterprise Planning & Portfolio Management will lead a transformative, multiyear initiative to establish best-in-class enterprise planning capabilities across the organization. This role partners with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to drive operational excellence, data transparency, and strategic decision-making across the drug development lifecycle. The position oversees governance, optimization, and integration of planning platforms and processes spanning R&D, Manufacturing, Commercial, and supporting functions, ensuring alignment with the companyβs mission. This strategic hire will lead a high-impact program with hundreds of stakeholders and multiple workstreams, build and manage a dedicated team, and ensure the long-term sustainability of planning and portfolio management infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the strategic vision for enterprise planning and portfolio management, aligning with corporate objectives and long-term growth.
- Lead a multiyear transformation to evaluate and optimize planning processes, systems, and roles across R&D, Manufacturing, Commercial, and other functions.
- Partner with senior sponsors and executive leadership to drive enterprise-wide initiatives with measurable outcomes.
- Serve as the business owner for the enterprise planning platform (Planisware or equivalent), overseeing roadmap development, system configuration, data governance, and integration with financial and analytics systems.
- Lead platform roadmap development, implementations, upgrades, vendor management, and license administration in partnership with GD-IT.
- Establish metrics and KPIs to monitor adherence, performance, and impact of planning capabilities on goals.
- Oversee implementation and scaling of new enterprise capabilities, including decommissioning legacy systems and integrating advanced solutions.
- Lead process optimization efforts, including scenario modeling, capacity planning, milestone tracking, enterprise reporting, and resource forecasting.
- Collaborate with strategic partners to deliver operating model redesigns, analytics enhancements, and change management initiatives.
- Ensure program scalability and sustainability through training programs, stakeholder engagement, and data migration strategies.
- Establish and lead governance forums, steering committees, and change control boards for cross-divisional alignment and updated SOPs.
- Drive process standardization and training by creating and improving process documentation and training materials.
- Enable visibility into pipeline health, risk, and value through dashboards and analytics in partnership with Data Analytics and other functions.
- Drive harmonization of portfolio data standards and reporting in partnership with R&D, Manufacturing, Commercial, SG&A, and Data Governance.
- Drive harmonization of data standards, reporting frameworks, and analytics across functions to show pipeline health, resource utilization, and portfolio value.
- Align process design with system capabilities and business goals.
Qualifications
- BS/BA degree; advanced degree preferred. 17+ years of relevant experience in project management and program planning, enterprise systems, portfolio management, or process transformation leadership in pharmaceutical or biotech.
- Deep expertise in drug development lifecycle and cross-functional planning; CPM/PMP or similar certifications preferred.
- Hands-on experience with IT ecosystems including PPM platforms.
- Proven success in large-scale transformation PMO leadership and use of process transformation tools (e.g., Lean Six Sigma).
- Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and change management capabilities.
- Proven ability to translate strategic goals into operational systems, processes, and teams.
- Strong people management skills with ability to identify, build talent, and lead through uncertainty.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and comfort interacting with all levels, including the C-suite.
