Executive Director, Business Partnering & Category Management: Facilities, Research, Manufacturing Procurement

This is a site-based role located at global headquarters in Foster City, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Gilead Research, Manufacturing Procurement, Corporate Engineering & Facilities, and Kite leadership/stakeholders to identify requirements aligned with business strategies and priorities; engage in strategic planning and target setting.
- Own and manage holistic portfolio end-to-end (category strategies and operational excellence projects) as a single point of contact, ensuring accountability for measurable category outcomes.
- Apply deep category-specific technical expertise to drive procurement impact and value through global, enterprise category strategy formulation for research and facilities-related categories.
- Deliver initiatives that drive earlier/increased procurement engagement and higher CSAT; partner with stakeholders for unified supplier engagement and communication.
- Collaborate with Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing to align procurement strategies for common spend and supplier utilization.
- Establish and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and market intelligence; drive adoption/compliance with preferred supplier programs.
- Own project delivery cadence and stakeholder alignment by managing timelines, resolving issues, and ensuring executive visibility into milestones/decisions.
- Lead and develop global/regional facilities and research category strategies; incorporate local/regional nuances.
- Communicate category strategy to executives and cross-functional leaders to build alignment and secure investment.
- Drive enterprise-wide category strategy development and accountability for category outcomes/value delivery.
- Champion procurement visions/strategic goals to drive continuous improvement and collaboration.
- Influence decision-making by leveraging category and sourcing insights.
- Oversee implementation and operational execution of enterprise-level procurement programs/policies; ensure on-time delivery and โcustomer of choiceโ relationships.
- Develop and maintain key supplier relationships; meet with stakeholders to ensure customer satisfaction and category target achievement.
- Define supplier targets with internal leadership (quality, reliability, innovation, cost).
- Translate business strategy into actionable category plans; drive measurable value.
- Drive value creation by identifying cost improvement opportunities and driving execution with regional teams.
- Partner with Category Strategy/Portfolio Management/Sourcing Excellence to implement frameworks, methodologies, tools, governance, and enablement.
- Collaborate with Supplier Risk, Inclusion, and Sustainability to integrate business diversity and responsible procurement.
- Develop and drive fact-based negotiation strategies with strategic vendors to deliver savings.
- Advise and implement procurement goals and category strategies using deep subject matter expertise and market knowledge.
- Provide holistic oversight across category accountabilities (strategy, partner engagement, sourcing, contracting, negotiating, supplier management).
- Foster inclusion, results orientation, and psychological safety; empower team members to speak up and grow in procurement.
Experience Requirements:
- 16+ years professional work experience plus a BS/BA, or 14+ years plus an MA/MS or MBA; preferably in DEI, procurement and supplier management, or corporate strategy.
- 10+ years leading and managing procurement leaders/teams with mentoring/coaching/performance management; experience with research services, lab supplies, construction, site services, etc.
- Experience supporting Global Procurement transformation projects with business partners (scope, budget, transformation results).
- Proven track record applying procurement principles/best practices/standards and industry practices.
- Ability to develop category and sourcing strategies; direct/leverage procurement spend by leading global cross-functional teams.
- Experience managing and maintaining strong supplier relationships.
- Strong leadership presence with negotiation/contract management experience.
- Extensive knowledge of procurement/spend systems data and analytics.
- Experience leading multiple projects/teams in a matrixed organization.
