Job Description: Director, Medical Affairs Research – Oncology

Responsibilities:
- Lead Oncology Medical Affairs Research strategy aligned to Integrated Evidence Plans across assets and disease areas.
- Provide scientific leadership for late-phase oncology research, selecting appropriate methodologies based on evidence gaps.
- Serve as Medical Affairs Study Lead (MASL) for Gilead-sponsored and collaborative research studies.
- Define research questions and guide protocol development for interventional, observational, and/or implementation science studies.
- Oversee a portfolio of Oncology MAR studies (scientific rigor, operational feasibility, governance, and compliance).
- Influence cross-functional partners across Development, HEOR, Commercial, Safety, and external stakeholders.
- Build and sustain external scientific partnerships (academic investigators, cooperative groups, data partners, health systems).
- Translate findings into scientific communications (abstracts, manuscripts, presentations).
- Provide mentorship and scientific leadership within Oncology Medical Affairs.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory/legal/business conduct standards for Medical Affairs research.

Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, or MPH) required.
- Publications/peer-reviewed authorship in primary methodological area.
- Typically 10+ years oncology research/medical affairs (or 12 yrs bachelor’s, 10 yrs master’s, or 8 yrs with PhD/MD/PharmD/MPH).
- Significant experience leading late-phase research (including Phase 4, collaborative, Medical Affairs-led studies).
- Strong understanding of regulatory/ethical/compliance requirements.

Preferred/Capabilities (methodologies):
- Interventional: Phase 4 trial design/conduct, protocol development, feasibility, execution oversight, collaboration.
- Observational/Real-world evidence: observational design/analysis using claims, EHRs, registries, linked datasets; epidemiologic rigor.
- Implementation science: frameworks/mixed methods to translate evidence into practice; address care gaps; adoption/sustainability.

Skills:
- Thought leadership; experience as major contributing author.
- Strategic thinking; influence in matrixed organizations; strong communication; global mindset; integrity/compliant scientific exchange.

Benefits/Comp:
- Salary range: $243,100.00–$314,600.00; may be eligible for discretionary annual bonus, long-term incentives, paid time off, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance).
