Director, Medical Affairs Research – Oncology

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Lead Oncology Medical Affairs Research strategy aligned to Integrated Evidence Plans.
- Provide scientific leadership for late-phase oncology research; select/apply methodologies based on evidence gaps.
- Serve as Medical Affairs Study Lead (MASL) for Gilead-sponsored and collaborative research.
- Define research questions and guide protocol development (interventional, observational, and/or implementation science).
- Oversee a portfolio of Oncology MAR studies (scientific rigor, feasibility, governance, compliance).
- Influence cross-functional partners (Development, HEOR, Commercial, Safety) and external stakeholders.
- Build and sustain external scientific partnerships (academics, cooperative groups, data partners, health systems).
- Translate findings into abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Mentor and provide scientific leadership to strengthen research capability.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, legal, and business conduct standards for Medical Affairs research.

Key Capabilities / Methodological Expertise:
- Interventional: Phase 4 trial design/conduct, protocol development, feasibility, execution oversight.
- Observational/Real-World Evidence: observational design/analysis using claims, EHRs, registries, linked datasets; epidemiologic rigor.
- Implementation Science: frameworks and mixed-methods to translate evidence into practice; improve adoption/sustainability.

Knowledge & Skills:
- Oncology research credibility/thought leadership; major contributing author experience.
- Strategic thinking, influence in matrixed organizations, strong written/verbal communication, global work ability, integrity and compliant scientific exchange.

Education & Experience / Basic Qualifications:
- Advanced scientific or medical degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, MPH) required.
- Bachelor’s + 12 years OR Master’s + 10 years OR PhD/PharmD/MD/MPH + 8 years.
- Typically 10+ years in oncology research/medical affairs; significant late-phase leadership (including Phase 4, collaborative, and Medical Affairs-led studies).

Compensation & Benefits (as stated):
- Salary range: $243,100.00–$314,600.00; may include discretionary bonus, stock-based incentives, paid time off, and company-sponsored medical/dental/vision/life insurance.
