Role Summary

The Director, Medical Affairs (Facial Aesthetics Portfolio and Body Contouring) acts as a key strategic leader within the FAS Strategic Medical Unit, developing and implementing medical strategies for the body contouring portfolio and facial aesthetics assets in the US. This role collaborates across medical, clinical development, and commercial teams to align medical initiatives with broader business objectives and to drive field-level medical communications, data generation, and in-field MSL training.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Establish overarching strategic direction for the US Field Medical Teams on the BC and aesthetics portfolio, guiding medical advisory boards and informing U.S. GAMA FAS strategic decisions.
  • Collaboration and Integration: Partner with Scientific Directors, Clinical Development, Brand, and Commercial Directors to develop and implement strategic field initiatives that support medical objectives.
  • Operational Oversight: Coordinate medical materials and in-field activities, ensuring alignment with the overall medical strategy.
  • In-Field MSL Training, Medical and Scientific Input: Provide medical and scientific input into field activities, support interactions with healthcare professionals, and generate data to enhance patient benefits and value.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with sales, marketing, and commercial teams to integrate medical insights into brand strategies and launches.
  • Asset Strategy Development Body Contouring: Influence asset strategy, delivering data generation, communication, and expert engagement to Asset Strategy Teams.
  • AMI Initiatives: Collaborate with AMI curricula teams to align outputs on FAS portfolio education.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead interactions with HCPs and national accounts, guiding scientific communication, education, data dissemination, guidelines, and value propositions.
  • Evidence and Communication Strategy: Contribute to gap assessments, Scientific Communication Platform, and integrated evidence plans for launch readiness.
  • Relationships: Maintain internal links with R&D, Commercial, and other Allergan departments; establish external expert relationships; collaborate with the MSL team for thought leader development; deliver portfolio-related presentations; gather insights to inform strategy.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree (PhD, PharmD, or MD); additional post-doctorate experience highly preferred.
  • 5–10 years of experience in Medical Affairs with Global Medical Affairs experience preferred.
  • Experience in aesthetics and late-phase studies, publications, and broad medical affairs activities strongly preferred.
  • Leadership attributes aligned with company initiatives; ability to adapt to changing market dynamics and maintain urgency and excellence.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and leadership without direct reporting relationships.
  • Excellent analytical, conceptual, administrative, and communication skills; proficient with standard office software.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Understanding of GCP, ICH guidelines, PhRMA code, FDA CFRs, ISO, clinical research ethics, HIPAA, and local regulations.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and travel up to 50% for field training.
  • Self-starter, independent worker with strong interpersonal skills for compliant collaboration with stakeholders and thought leaders.

Education

  • Advanced degree as noted above (PhD, PharmD, or MD).
