About the Role
Lead, manage, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare providers (HCPs), and healthcare entities in alignment with Takeda US Medical priorities. Provide leadership and oversight to ensure effective internal/external collaboration; report to the Senior Director, Field Medical.
How you will contribute
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach MSLs; align activities to US Medical priorities; ensure scientific/operational excellence via hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competency proficiency, territory plan execution, insights reporting, training/administrative duties, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan after approvals.
- Observe external engagements (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Maintain proficiency in Takeda systems to support coaching.
- Plan and execute MSL participation in professional meetings (congresses).
- Build a collaborative MSL culture; support continuous learning; ensure individual development plans.
- Create performance and KOL/HCP insight reports to guide US Medical decisions.
- Build relationships with US Medical unit and cross-functional partners.
- Develop/maintain therapeutic area scientific expertise; provide scientific training and guidance.
- Provide compliance/ethical guidance; ensure adherence to policies, SOPs, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Oversee annual budget cycle and manage expenditures within policy.
- Engage in scientific discussions; document per SOPs.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Masterβs degree in health sciences (e.g., MSN, NP, PA) minimum; doctoral degree preferred (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent).
- Pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs experience.
- Strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, and project management; ability to manage/lead/mentor.
- Extensive MSL or similar scientific experience.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, organization, and collaboration.
- Digital tools/technologies proficiency; openness to AI-enabled processes.
- Understanding of compliance, ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience managing teams in field-based pharmaceutical settings with an advanced scientific degree.
- Therapeutic area knowledge with relevant scientific/clinical data.
- 18+ years old; valid driverβs license and acceptable driving record.
- Travel 40β60% (overnight; occasionally weekends); must live in the West Region.
- Authorization and ability to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
