About the Role
Join Takeda as Director, Field Medical β Rheumatology (East). Lead, manage, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with KOLs, HCPs, and healthcare entities in alignment with US Medical priorities. Report to the Senior Director, Field Medical.
How you will contribute
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach MSLs; align activities to US Medical priorities; ensure scientific/operational excellence via hiring, training, and medical plan execution.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan creation/execution, insights reporting, training/admin completion, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan (with internal approvals).
- Observe external scientific engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Maintain proficiency in Takeda systems for coaching.
- Plan and oversee MSL participation in professional meetings/congresses.
- Build a high-performing MSL culture; ensure individual development plans and learning support.
- Create performance/KOL-HCP insight reports to inform US Medical strategy.
- Build relationships with US Medical unit and cross-functional partners; participate in internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic area expertise; provide scientific training and up-to-date information.
- Provide compliance/ethics guidance; ensure adherence to policies/SOPs/regulations/ethical standards.
- Oversee annual budget cycle; ensure expenditures align with budget and policies.
- Conduct scientific discussions and document per SOPs/guidance.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Masterβs in health sciences (minimum); doctoral degree preferred (PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent).
- Pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs experience.
- Strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, project management; ability to lead/mentor teams.
- Extensive prior MSL (or similar) experience.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, organization, collaboration.
- Strong digital tools/tech skills; openness to AI-enabled processes.
- Understanding of compliance, ethics, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience leading field-based teams with an advanced scientific degree.
- Therapeutic area knowledge with relevant scientific/clinical data.
- 18+ with valid driverβs license and acceptable driving record.
- Travel 40β60% (including overnight/weekends); must live in East Region.
- Authorization and ability to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
