About the Role
Join Takeda as a Director, Field Medical โ Rheumatology, East. Lead, manage, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with KOLs, HCPs, and healthcare entities in alignment with US Medical strategic priorities. Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to an MSL team and report to the Senior Director, Field Medical.
How you will contribute
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach MSLs; maximize performance and align activities to US Medical priorities (including hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan).
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan creation/execution, insights reporting, training/admin completion, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan after internal approvals.
- Conduct observations of MSL engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Use Takeda systems to support performance coaching.
- Plan and execute MSL participation in professional meetings/congresses.
- Build a high-performing team culture; support individual development plans.
- Create team reports (performance and KOL/HCP insights) to inform US Medical decisions.
- Build relationships with US Medical unit and cross-functional partners.
- Participate in internal unit and cross-functional meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic area expertise and provide scientific training/guidance; ensure compliance with relevant policies, SOPs, regulations, guidance, and ethical standards.
- Oversee team annual budget cycle.
- Engage in scientific discussions and document according to SOPs and guidance.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Masterโs degree in health sciences is required; doctoral degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) preferred.
- Thorough understanding of and experience in pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs.
- Proven strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, and project management; ability to manage/lead/mentor.
- Extensive prior experience as an MSL or similar scientific role.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, organization, and collaboration.
- Strong digital tools/technologies foundation; openness to emerging tech and AI-enabled processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of compliance, ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience managing teams with an advanced scientific degree in a field-based group.
- Therapeutic area knowledge including relevant scientific/clinical data.
- 18+ years old; valid driverโs license and acceptable driving record.
- Travel 40โ60% (overnights; occasional weekends). Must live in the East Region.
- Authorization and ability to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
Benefits (if explicitly stated)
- U.S. base salary range: $192,400.00โ$302,390.00.
- Eligibility for short-term/long-term incentives; medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, disability, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time off, holidays, well-being benefits, up to 80 hours sick time, and up to 120 hours paid vacation for new hires.
