About The Role
Join Takeda as a Director, Field Medical – Rheumatology, East where you will lead, manage, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs), healthcare providers (HCPs), and healthcare entities in alignment with US Medical strategic priorities. Report to the Senior Director, Field Medical.

How you will contribute
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach an MSL team; ensure scientific and operational excellence via hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan creation/execution, insights reporting, training/administrative duties, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan after required approvals.
- Observe external engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Maintain proficiency in Takeda systems to support coaching.
- Develop and execute MSL participation plan for professional meetings (congresses).
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture; support learning and development; ensure individual development plans.
- Create team reports (performance and KOL/HCP insights) to guide US Medical strategies and tactics.
- Build/maintain relationships with US Medical and cross-functional partners; participate in internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic area expertise; provide scientific training and ensure accurate, up-to-date information.
- Provide compliance/ethics guidance; ensure adherence to policies, SOPs, regulations, guidance, and ethical standards.
- Oversee annual budget cycle and ensure expenditures align to budget/policies.
- Engage in scientific discussions as needed and document per SOPs.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Preferred: Doctoral degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent). Minimum: Master’s in health sciences (MSN, NP, or PA).
- Pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs experience.
- Strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, project management; ability to manage/lead/mentor teams.
- Extensive MSL or similar field-based scientific experience.
- Strong written/verbal communication, organization, collaboration.
- Digital tools/technologies; comfort with emerging technologies and AI-enabled processes.
- Knowledge of compliance, ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience managing teams with an advanced scientific degree.
- In-depth therapeutic area knowledge and relevant scientific/clinical data.
- 18+ years; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Travel 40–60% (overnight; occasionally weekends); live in East Region.
- Authorization to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
