Director, Field Medical – Rheumatology (East)

Responsibilities / How you will contribute
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs); align team activities to US Medical strategic priorities; ensure scientific/operational excellence via hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Communicate expectations and hold MSLs accountable for performance (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan execution, insights reporting, training/admin completion, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement the annual team tactical plan (after required approvals).
- Observe MSL external scientific engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Maintain proficiency in Takeda systems to support coaching.
- Plan and execute MSL participation in professional meetings (congresses).
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture; ensure individual development plans and learning/growth support.
- Create team reports (performance and KOL/HCP insights) to support US Medical decision-making.
- Build and maintain relationships with US Medical and cross-functional partners (e.g., Clinical Development/Operations, Global Medical, Commercial leadership) and participate in internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic-area scientific expertise; provide scientific training and up-to-date information.
- Provide compliance/ethics guidance; ensure adherence to policies, SOPs, regulations, guidance, and ethical standards.
- Oversee the annual team budget cycle and manage expenditures within budget/policies.
- Engage in scientific discussions with KOLs/HCPs/internal stakeholders and document per SOPs.

Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in health sciences (e.g., MSN, NP, PA) (Doctoral degree preferred: PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent).
- Pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs experience.
- Proven strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, and project management; ability to manage/lead/mentor.
- Extensive prior MSL (or similar) experience.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, organization, collaboration.
- Digital tools/technologies proficiency; comfort with emerging technologies and AI-enabled processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of compliance, ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience leading field-based scientific teams.
- Therapeutic-area knowledge and relevant scientific/clinical data.
- 18+ with valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Travel 40–60% (overnight/weekends occasionally); must live in the East Region.
- Authorization and ability to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
