Director, Field Medical – Rheumatology (East)
Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with KOLs, HCPs, and healthcare entities.
- Align and manage MSL activities to US Medical strategic priorities; ensure hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Set expectations and hold MSLs accountable for performance (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan execution, insights reporting, training/administrative duties, congress participation).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan (after required approvals).
- Observe external engagement and monitor documentation.
- Develop and execute MSL congress participation plan.
- Build team culture, individual development plans, and learning opportunities.
- Create performance and KOL/HCP insights reports to guide US Medical decisions.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders; attend internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic-area expertise; provide scientific training and ensure accurate information.
- Provide compliance/ethics guidance; oversee adherence to policies/SOPs/regulations.
- Oversee annual team budget and expenditures.
- Engage in scientific discussions as needed and document per SOPs.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in health sciences (e.g., MSN, NP, or PA). Doctoral degree preferred (PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent).
- Thorough pharmaceutical industry + Medical Affairs experience.
- Proven strategic leadership, project management, and ability to manage/mentor teams.
- Extensive prior MSL or similar scientific role experience.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, organization, and collaboration.
- Strong digital tools foundation; comfort with emerging tech/AI-enabled processes.
- Demonstrated understanding of compliance, ethical, legal, and regulatory guidelines.
- Experience leading field-based teams with an advanced scientific degree.
- In-depth therapeutic-area knowledge and relevant scientific/clinical data.
- 18+ with valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; travel 40–60% (overnights/weekends occasionally); live in East Region; authorization and ability to drive company leased vehicle or rental.
