Director, Field Medical – Rheumatology (East)
How you will contribute
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs); ensure scientific/operational excellence through hiring, training, and medical plan execution.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan creation/execution, insights reporting, training/admin completion, congress participation).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan (after required approvals).
- Observe MSL external engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Maintain proficiency in Takeda systems for coaching.
- Plan and execute MSL participation in professional meetings/congresses.
- Build a high-performing team culture; ensure individual development plans.
- Create MSL team reports (performance + KOL/HCP insights) to inform US Medical strategy.
- Build relationships with US Medical and cross-functional partners; attend internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic-area expertise; provide scientific training and accurate/up-to-date information.
- Coach for compliance/ethical adherence; ensure policy/SOP/regulatory and ethical standards.
- Oversee annual team budget cycle and manage expenditures within budget.
- Conduct scientific discussions with KOLs/HCPs/internal stakeholders; document per SOPs.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Master’s degree in health sciences (e.g., MSN/NP/PA) minimum; doctoral degree preferred (PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent).
- Experience in pharmaceutical industry/Medical Affairs; proven strategic leadership/mentoring.
- Extensive prior MSL (or similar) experience; strong communication, organization, collaboration.
- Strong digital tools foundation; openness to AI-enabled processes.
- Demonstrated compliance/ethical/legal/regulatory understanding.
- Experience leading field-based scientific teams.
- In-depth therapeutic area knowledge.
- 18+ with valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; travel 40–60% (overnights/weekends occasionally); live in East Region; authorization to drive company leased vehicle/rental.
