About the Role
Join Takeda as a Director, Field Medical – Rheumatology, East. Lead, manage, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with KOLs, HCPs, and healthcare entities in alignment with US Medical priorities. Provide leadership and oversight to ensure effective engagement and collaboration; report to the Senior Director, Field Medical.
How you will contribute
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach MSLs; ensure scientific and operational excellence through hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan execution, insights reporting, training/admin completion, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan after required approvals.
- Observe MSL external engagements (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Maintain proficiency using Takeda systems for performance coaching.
- Plan and execute MSL participation in professional meetings/congresses.
- Foster a high-performing MSL culture; ensure individual development plans.
- Create team reports (performance and KOL/HCP insights) to guide US Medical strategies.
- Build relationships with US Medical and cross-functional partners; participate in internal meetings.
- Develop and maintain therapeutic-area expertise; provide scientific training and guidance.
- Train and ensure compliance with policies, SOPs, regulations, and ethical standards.
- Oversee the annual budget cycle; keep expenditures within budget and policy.
- Engage in scientific discussions and document per SOPs/guidance.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
- Master’s degree in health sciences (minimum); doctoral degree preferred.
- Pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs experience.
- Strategic leadership, teamwork, innovation, project management; ability to lead/mentor.
- Extensive MSL (or similar) experience.
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration.
- Strong digital tools/tech foundation; openness to AI-enabled processes.
- Understanding of compliance/ethical/legal/regulatory guidelines.
- Experience managing field-based teams.
- Therapeutic area expertise and scientific/clinical data knowledge.
- 18+ with valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Travel 40–60% (overnight; occasionally weekends); live in the East Region.
- Authorization/ability to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
