Director, Field Medical – Rheumatology, East (US Medical) — Lead, manage, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with KOLs, HCPs, and healthcare entities aligned to US Medical strategy. Report to the Senior Director, Field Medical.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach MSLs; ensure scientific and operational excellence through hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan execution, insights reporting, training/admin completion, congress participation).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan (after approvals).
- Observe engagements (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Use Takeda systems to support coaching.
- Plan and execute MSL participation in congresses/professional meetings.
- Build high-performing culture; ensure individual development plans.
- Create performance and KOL/HCP insights reports; advise US Medical strategy/tactics.
- Build relationships with cross-functional partners and participate in internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic-area expertise; provide scientific training.
- Train on compliance/ethics and ensure adherence to policies/SOPs/regulations.
- Oversee annual budget cycle; manage expenditures within budget.
- Engage in scientific discussions and document per SOPs.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Master’s degree in health sciences (minimum). Doctoral degree preferred.
- Pharmaceutical industry + Medical Affairs experience.
- Proven strategic leadership, project management, and ability to mentor.
- Extensive MSL/scientific-role experience.
- Strong written/verbal communication, organization, collaboration.
- Digital tools competence; comfort with emerging technologies/AI-enabled processes.
- Compliance/ethical/legal/regulatory understanding.
- Experience managing field-based teams; therapeutic-area knowledge.
- 18+ with valid driver’s license/acceptable record; travel 40–60% (overnights/weekends occasionally); live in East Region; authorization to drive company leased vehicle/rental.
Compensation/Benefits (listed): Base salary range $192,400–$302,390; may be eligible for incentives and benefits including medical/dental/vision, 401(k) match, disability, life insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteer time off, holidays, well-being benefits, sick time, and vacation hours.
