Director, Field Medical – Gastroenterology (West) (Field-based)
How you will contribute:
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs); ensure scientific/operational excellence via hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan, digital platform use, training/administrative duties, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan (with required internal approvals).
- Observe MSL external engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Use Takeda digital tools/systems (including AI) to improve productivity/efficiency.
- Plan MSL participation in professional meetings (congresses).
- Build a collaborative, high-performing team culture; support individual development plans and continuous learning (including digital literacy).
- Use digital dashboards to create team reports (performance and KOL/HCP insights) to advise US Medical decisions.
- Partner with internal functions; participate in internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic-area expertise; provide scientific training and ensure up-to-date, accurate information.
- Provide guidance on compliance/ethics; ensure adherence to policies/SOPs/regulations.
- Oversee annual team budget cycle.
- Engage in scientific discussions and document per SOPs.
Minimum requirements/qualifications:
- Required: Master’s degree in health sciences (e.g., MSN, NP, PA) (Doctoral degree preferred). Pharmaceutical industry + Medical Affairs experience; demonstrated strategic leadership and ability to manage/mentor teams; extensive MSL/similar experience; excellent communication/organization/collaboration; strong digital tool foundation with openness to AI; knowledge of compliance/ethical/legal/regulatory guidelines.
- Desired: Experience managing field-based teams with advanced scientific degree; therapeutic area expertise and relevant clinical data.
Travel requirements:
- Drive/fly to meetings; travel up to 40–60% (some overnight/weekend).
