Director, Field Medical – Gastroenterology (West)

How you will contribute:
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs); ensure scientific and operational excellence through hiring, training, and execution of the medical plan.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan creation/execution, digital platform use for insights/reporting, training/admin completion, congress participation, etc.).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan (after approvals).
- Observe MSL external engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Use Takeda digital tools and systems (including AI) to improve productivity, efficiency, and performance.
- Plan and execute MSL participation in professional meetings (congresses).
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing culture and support continuous learning (including digital literacy).
- Ensure individual development plans and learning/growth support.
- Create MSL team reports using digital dashboards (performance and KOL/HCP insights) to inform US Medical decisions.
- Build relationships with US Medical unit and cross-functional partners; participate in internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic area expertise and provide scientific training.
- Provide guidance/training on compliance and ethical considerations; ensure adherence to policies/SOPs/regulations.
- Oversee annual budget cycle and manage expenditures within budget.
- Engage in scientific discussions with KOLs/HCPs and internal stakeholders; document per SOPs.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in health sciences (minimum); doctoral degree preferred (PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent).
- Pharmaceutical industry and Medical Affairs experience.
- Strategic leadership, project management, and ability to lead/mentor teams.
- Extensive MSL (or similar) experience.
- Excellent written/verbal communication, organization, collaboration.
- Strong digital tools/technology foundation; comfort with emerging tech and AI-enabled processes.
- Knowledge of compliance/ethical/legal/regulatory guidelines.

Other desired:
- Experience managing a field-based group with an advanced scientific degree.
- Therapeutic area expertise and relevant scientific/clinical data knowledge.

Travel requirements:
- Drive/fly to meetings; travel up to 40–60% (some overnight/weekend).
