Director, Field Medical – Gastroenterology (West)

Responsibilities / How you will contribute:
- Lead, manage, mentor, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs); drive scientific and operational excellence (hiring, training, execution of the medical plan).
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable for performance expectations (goal achievement, competencies, territory plan creation/execution, digital platform use, training/admin completion, congress participation).
- Develop and implement annual team tactical plan (after required internal approvals).
- Observe external scientific engagement (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Use Takeda digital tools/systems, including AI, to improve productivity and performance.
- Plan and manage MSL participation in professional meetings (congresses).
- Build a collaborative, high-performing team culture; ensure individual development plans and learning/growth support.
- Use digital dashboards to create team reports (performance and KOL/HCP insights) to inform decision-making.
- Build relationships with internal/cross-functional partners and participate in relevant meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic area expertise; provide scientific training and up-to-date information to the MSL team.
- Provide guidance/training on compliance and ethical considerations; ensure adherence to policies, SOPs, regulations, guidance, and ethical standards.
- Oversee the annual budget cycle and ensure expenditures align with budget, policies, and SOPs.
- Engage in scientific discussions and document per SOPs/guidance.

Minimum requirements / Qualifications:
- Required: Master’s in health sciences (MSN/NP/PA) minimum; doctoral degree preferred (PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent).
- Pharmaceutical industry + Medical Affairs experience; strategic leadership and ability to manage/mentor teams.
- Extensive MSL or similar scientific role experience.
- Excellent communication, organization, collaboration.
- Strong digital tools/technology foundation; openness to AI-enabled processes.
- Understanding of compliance/ethical/legal/regulatory guidelines.

Other desired experience:
- Managing teams in a field-based pharmaceutical group with an advanced scientific degree.
- In-depth therapeutic area knowledge and relevant scientific/clinical data.

Travel requirements:
- Drive/fly to meetings; travel up to 40–60% (including some overnight/weekend).

Ideal location: CA, CO, AZ, or WA (field-based).
