About the role (Director, Field Medical – Gastroenterology West):
Lead, manage, and coach a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) to drive external scientific engagement with KOLs, HCPs, and healthcare entities aligned to US Medical strategy. Provide leadership/oversight to ensure effective engagement and collaboration, leveraging digital tools/technology.
How you will contribute:
- Lead/mentor MSLs; hire, train, execute medical plan; ensure scientific and operational excellence.
- Communicate and hold MSLs accountable to performance expectations (goal achievement, territory plan execution, digital reporting/insights, training/administrative completion, congress participation).
- Develop/implement annual tactical plan (after approvals).
- Observe engagements (in-person/virtual) and monitor documentation.
- Use Takeda digital tools/systems, including AI, to improve productivity/efficiency.
- Plan MSL participation in professional meetings (congresses).
- Build high-performing, learning-focused team culture; support individual development plans.
- Use digital dashboards for team performance and KOL/HCP insights; support decision-making.
- Build relationships with US Medical and cross-functional partners; attend internal meetings.
- Maintain therapeutic area expertise; provide scientific training.
- Ensure compliance/ethical adherence (policies, SOPs, regulations).
- Oversee annual budget cycle; manage expenditures within policy.
- Engage in scientific discussions and document per SOPs.
Minimum requirements:
- Required: Master’s degree in health sciences (MSN/NP/PA) (doctoral preferred, e.g., PharmD/MD/PhD or equivalent). Experience in pharmaceutical industry/Medical Affairs. Proven strategic leadership and ability to manage/lead/mentor teams. Extensive prior MSL or similar experience. Excellent communication, organization, collaboration. Strong foundation in digital tools; openness to AI-enabled processes. Understanding of compliance/ethical/legal/regulatory guidelines.
- Desired: Experience managing field teams; in-depth therapeutic area knowledge with scientific/clinical data.
Travel requirements:
- Drive/fly to meetings; travel up to 40–60% (overnights/weekends).
