Role Summary

Director, Federal Affairs. Influence Sarepta’s federal policy strategy, engage with U.S. Congress and the Administration, and collaborate with industry groups to advance Sarepta’s objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a registered federal lobbyist and engage federal elected officials and their staff.
  • Develop and drive implementation of Sarepta’s government affairs engagement plan to shape a positive policy environment and mitigate negative impacts.
  • Monitor and assess the political climate related to rare disease and gene therapy policies to determine effects on the industry and Sarepta’s goals.
  • Represent the Company’s interests through participation on trade association committees and coalitions.
  • Develop and maintain a network of federal contacts and public opinion leaders to reflect Sarepta’s interests in legislative environments; take meetings independently as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Sarepta teams and federal consultants in strategy development and execution.
  • Draft memos, educational materials, and presentations on the impact of federal legislation and policy, and the Federal Government Affairs strategy.
  • Educate internal stakeholders on federal policy proposals that could impact Sarepta.
  • Manage the federal political action committee, including solicitation, donation, and employee engagement strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with lobbying disclosure rules.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, federal appropriations, PDUFA, 21st Century Cures, newborn screening, pharmaceutical reimbursement, 340B, corporate tax, and other healthcare/corporate issues as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years current and relevant experience in federal government affairs/policy
  • Bachelor’s degree required in science, political science, government or public policy
  • Experience dealing with federal healthcare legislative, regulatory, policy, and political issues
  • Direct lobbying experience required
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with members and staff of the legislature, administration, and other policy leaders
  • Knowledge of the federal government’s legislative and regulatory systems
  • Innovative thinker with strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • High level of energy and passion toward patients, science, and policy
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills with colleagues, trade associations, and policy organizations
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyze issues in the context of high-level policies
  • Self-initiating, well-organized, and able to manage multiple projects independently
