Role Summary
Director and Group Head (Scientific Innovation), AI and Computational Sciences – lead the Scientific Innovation group within AICS, overseeing a team of scientists with biomedical domain expertise and AI focus, and serve as the primary SME liaison of AICS to BR Disease Areas and Function Areas.
Responsibilities
- Scientific Innovation Group Lead: Lead a team of AI researchers with domain expertise; ensure robust and performant AI models; collaborate with Engineering and Product Development to deliver AI solutions; raise awareness of AI applications across Biomedical Research; position AI contributions to accelerate drug discovery and improve efficiency.
- Collaboration & partnership: Serve as primary liaison for AICS, identify research questions, design solutions, evangelize results; regularly communicate with AICS teams, data science community, and senior scientists; initiate and lead high-value internal collaborations; design translatable metrics for AI models with BR DAs and FAs.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in innovation, development, deployment and continuous support of machine learning data management and modeling
- Expertise in delivering advanced analytics insights to a large research organization and deep understanding of drug development
- Passion for emerging technologies with pragmatic insight on integration into business solutions
- Ability to balance requirements, manage expectations, and drive results with proactive issue resolution
- Entrepreneurial, proactive attitude; strong organizational, problem-solving, and influencing skills; proven teamwork
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
- Ability to execute and prioritize in a complex matrixed environment; operational and functional leadership
