Role Summary

Data Scientist II at AbbVie, contributing to the digital transformation of a leading biopharma company within the Business Technology Solutions (BTS) team. The role involves exploratory data analysis, development of predictive models using statistical and machine-learning methods, and communicating insights to the team. This is a hybrid role based in Lake County, IL.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the team with the analysis of business requirements and developing solution recommendations which anticipate the future impact of changing business requirements.
  • Participate in the design and development of processes and systems to consolidate and analyze data. Considerations include variety (structured, unstructured), volume (big data), data quality (cleaning and validation), and velocity (batch, stream).
  • Participate in the development of advanced analytical models and techniques from supervised and unsupervised machine learning, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Generate reports with findings and help communicate these effectively via written, oral, and visual dashboard methods in collaboration with more senior team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree equivalent education plus 5 years of experience, Masterโ€™s Degree or equivalent education plus 4 years of experience.
  • Minimum undergraduate knowledge of statistical and machine learning methods, with knowledge in modeling and business analytics.
  • Academic experience in statistical languages and packages, such as R or Python; solid skill in at least one of Python or R.
  • Experience enhancing data collection processes by consolidating data, standardizing, optimization, and performing exploratory data analysis before use in ML models (e.g., capstone projects).
  • Experience with modern relational databases and/or distributed computing platforms (Big Data), and query interfaces such as SQL, Spark, PySpark, and Hive.
  • Experience using visualization techniques for presenting data and analysis as dashboards in tools such as R/Shiny, GGPlot, Tableau, Qlik, or custom web-based solutions.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Apache Spark, NumPy, TensorFlow is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, dynamic environment.
  • Able to come onsite 3 days a week.

  • Background in life sciences or pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Knowledge of Agile project management processes.
  • Knowledge of DevOps processes.
  • Experience in personalization, search, deep learning, operations research.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix OS.
  • NLP, data mining, text mining, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Data Science tools like Dataiku, AWS SageMaker, etc.
