Responsibilities:
- Serve as a strategic and operational partner to the CSO, CLO, and executive leadership; advise, advocate, and help drive organizational action.
- Translate CSO/CLO priorities into plans, milestones, and accountability structures.
- Track and advance critical cross-functional strategic initiatives across strategy and legal (mostly strategy).
- Identify stalled progress and remove obstacles.
- Challenge assumptions and current ways of working in service of the patient mission.
- Support the firm’s first strategic planning initiative (e.g., affiliate structure considerations, platform strategy, system of excellence, and protecting innovation culture).
- Manage the operating rhythm of the CSO/CLO office (priorities, cadences, communications, commitments); ensure meeting readiness and prepare Board/executive briefing materials.
- Act as discreet point of contact for internal/external stakeholders; act as proxy/delegate when appropriate.
- Engage in relevant deals/transactions from both strategic and legal sides.
- Support IP strategy and IP positioning; help connect IP positioning to commercial/competitive strategy.
- Coordinate across legal leadership to ensure alignment and execution on priority matters.
- Support Enterprise Risk Management evolution; lead horizon scanning (governmental, geopolitical, market shifts).
- Own discrete special projects end-to-end.
- Evaluate/possibly lead implementation of AI/ML tools to drive efficiencies (drafting, IP FTO, patent claims, compliance, e-billing, etc.).
- Build/manage preferred external counsel panel; support legal ops contract lifecycle management.
- Drive efficiency initiatives that return time from routine work to judgment and client partnership.
Qualifications:
- Mission-driven; strong patient impact orientation.
- 3–10 years of experience with meaningful exposure to biopharmaceutical/life sciences.
- Relevant backgrounds may include: strategy/management consulting; biopharma business development or strategic finance; investment banking/private equity with strategic exposure; prior Chief of Staff or executive strategy experience (legal background welcome but not required).
Required/Preferred Skills:
- First-principles problem solving; ability to produce defensible recommendations for senior leadership/Board.
- Clear communication (writing/speaking) and ability to develop materials for Boards and C-suite.
- Ability to collaborate across functions and build trust with diverse stakeholders.
- Genuine curiosity about technology and AI-enabled tools.
- Advanced degree strongly preferred (quality of thinking prioritized).
- Demonstrated curiosity/adaptability in adopting AI-powered tools and technologies.
