Responsibilities:
- Lead the opportunity identification process: generate, interpret, communicate, and integrate opportunity flow into the EXEL partnering process; find and โ€œgroomโ€ new asset opportunities; identify where top opportunities exist or are emerging.
- Manage all aspects of opportunity search: leverage internal/external CI resources; cover key partnering and scientific conferences; frequently visit potential business partners; lead partnering meetings.
- Build and socialize vision and preliminary business cases for new assets/technologies; align initial EXEL and partner needs/strategic objectives; persuade partners; lead early negotiations.
- Coordinate internal alignment and diligence: socialize business cases with internal stakeholders; facilitate evaluation/initial diligence with subject matter experts; interpret affirming/disconfirming information.
- Transition opportunities smoothly to the BD Transaction team for further evaluation, final business case development, and deal closure.
- Maintain awareness of therapy/oncology issues, mechanistic target areas, evolving target/asset value, and private/public market conditions.
- Build a โ€œpartner of choiceโ€ reputation in territory and increase visibility at BD meetings.
- Foster a positive, team-work-focused internal and external environment; create a learning culture for continuous improvement.
- Communicate regularly with peers across BD S&E, BD Transactions, and Scientific/Corporate Strategy teams.
- Maintain flexible work hours (time zones) and travel at least 50% (territory based).

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None; experience working in matrix environments is key.

Qualifications (Education/Experience):
- BS with 10 years related experience, or PharmD with 6 years related experience, or a business degree plus significant drug product development/commercial experience or venture/private equity investment search & evaluation experience.
- MBA or PhD with drug discovery/development and/or commercial product management focus is a plus.
- Minimum 8 years in pharmaceutical/biotech industries.
- Required: small or large molecule drug discovery, clinical development, or commercial experience; oncology experience; significant existing network of business and scientific contacts.
- Required: experience in search/evaluation, oncology competitive/corporate intelligence, business development focused on S&E, and/or medical affairs or medical sales liaison.
- Experience with investment community (VCs/investment banks), and interacting with VC portfolio boards/executives in relevant technology areas.

Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Established oncology-focused contact network across search/evaluation and development/business development.
- Executive communication (oral/written) and ability to translate complex scientific info for varied audiences.
- Listening and emotional intelligence; ability to build/maintain long-term trusted relationships.
- Strong project management/organization; learning agility; self-motivated (minimal supervision).
- Negotiation and influence skills.

Working Conditions:
- Works on diverse and complex issues requiring evaluation and judgment; networks with key contacts outside own expertise.
