Role Summary
Applicants should reside within the Southeast or Mid-Atlantic region(s). The Associate Director, US Patient Advocacy helps uniQure build strong relationships with patient advocacy groups and patient communities to inform business strategy and promote a patient-focused corporate culture. The role cultivates awareness, trust, and collaboration with patient communities to shape initiatives that empower patients and caregivers to seek the best care. The position also leads national and regional collaborations with patient advocacy groups in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
Responsibilities
- Lead participation in Patient Organization events, workshops, and conferences to elevate awareness and champion patient community engagement.
- Build and maintain trusted and strategic long-term relationships with patient organizations and communities.
- Develop patient-facing educational materials, booths and any ancillary exhibit needs.
- Identify the right patient organizations to drive strategic collaborations and partnerships that educate and mobilize patients to seek optimal care and elevate the voice of the patient to inform decisionmakers in the patient treatment journey, including HCPs, policymakers and payers.
- Execute integrated patient advocacy strategies aligned to critical business and corporate priorities based on deep understanding of the patient/care partner experience and unmet needs.
- Coordinate objectives with other customer-focused team members including MSLs, Account Managers for both HCPs and Payers and Case Managers.
- Developing a patient advocacy field strategy that is informed by the advocacy community and aligns with uniQure’s business needs.
- Champion the patient perspective and deliver strategic insights to senior leadership, program, and functional teams to optimize corporate and program strategy.
- Monitor and evaluate performance to achieve and maintain best-in-class outcomes, while being fully compliant.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7 years of experience working in a patient advocacy role in the biopharmaceutical industry; preference to field experience.
- Experience in rare disease patient advocacy.
- Proven track record in fostering collaboration and building trust with patient communities.
- Experience in cross-functional collaboration, including R&D, Medical Affairs, Communications, Market Access and Commercial.
- An understanding of how to balance business and science needs with the needs of the patient community.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, intuition, social intelligence, flexibility and creativity to excel in a constantly changing environment; a proven ability to collaborate effectively; a sense of ethics; and most importantly, a passion for patients and research.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results in a matrixed organization.
- Knowledge of the legal, regulatory, compliance, and ethical regulations and guidelines impacting patient advocacy in the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Must be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.
