Position Summary:
The Associate Director, Operational Excellence will drive adoption and execution of the BMS operating system vision and strategy, oversee and collaborate with sites, functions, and the Operational Excellence (OpEx) network to develop and implement strategies that build a continuous improvement culture, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, strategic scorecards/dashboards, business process best practices, and deployment of operational excellence systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and support Diagnostics and Focused Improvement initiatives
- Coach sites and site leaders to develop and execute COMPASS Roadmaps to deliver results and mature Operational Excellence culture
- Apply Continuous Improvement and Lean tools to improve performance, reduce waste, and drive productivity across GPS sites and functions
- Facilitate Monthly Bowling Card reviews
- Support and influence operational and process changes; promote a “Lead with Data” mindset and fact-based decision-making
- Contextualize business issues and value levers; communicate complex quantitative analysis clearly and actionably
- Establish and maintain SMART KPIs for safety, quality, service, cost, and efficiency
- Define, optimize, and maintain end-to-end business processes
- Lead workshops, Kaizen, DMAIC, PDCA, and Lean Six Sigma projects
- Partner with leadership to identify high-impact opportunities and drive organization-wide process improvements
- Identify and eliminate inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and waste; optimize labor, facility, and space utilization
- Perform root cause problem solving; identify meaningful metrics and KPIs
- Drive continuous improvement education, training, project intake, and prioritization; build organizational capability through training/coaching
- Build and leverage matrix relationships to implement measurement and management systems
- Ensure compliance with resource management policies and procedures
- Stay current with trends and emerging technologies related to Compass and process improvement; implement innovative solutions
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Travel up to 50%
Qualifications & Experience (Requirements/Preferences):
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Management, Project Management, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in operations, project management, or related field
- Minimum 2 years in OpEx with heavy emphasis on driving focused improvements
- Financial acumen to develop business cases
- Proven track record managing complex projects and driving operational excellence
- Strong leadership/team management, communication, and stakeholder influence skills
- Proficiency with project management tools/methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, PMP)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to make data-driven decisions
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and manage multiple priorities
- Experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry or similar
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt preferred
