Associate Director of U.S. HIV Community Engagement & Advocacy (Foster City, CA)
Reporting to the Executive Director, U.S. Prevention Public Affairs, this role leads an advocacy and engagement strategy for Gileadβs U.S. HIV prevention portfolio and pipeline.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Lead U.S. HIV prevention advocacy strategy aligned with Public Affairs, HIV Franchise, and enterprise priorities (incl. Commercial and Medical Affairs launch planning).
- Build and sustain trusted, credible relationships with HIV advocacy and community organizations; serve as primary company liaison.
- Gather community insights (unmet needs, policy priorities, access barriers), translate into actionable internal strategies, and provide timely feedback to stakeholders.
- Represent community perspectives across discovery, development, and delivery to enable patient- and community-informed decisions.
- Drive cross-functional alignment (Public Affairs, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, Market Access, Government Affairs, Legal, Regulatory, Ethics & Compliance).
- Lead stakeholder mapping and engagement planning; build coalitions to advance health equity, screening/linkage to care, and address stigma/disparities.
- Plan structured engagement forums (e.g., advisory boards, roundtables).
- Oversee advocacy execution (events, sponsorships, campaigns, community-led initiatives).
- Partner with communications teams to develop coordinated external strategies.
- Monitor policy/advocacy landscape and emerging community trends.
- Track engagements/insights; manage budgets, sponsorships, and external partners in compliance.
- Champion inclusive, community-led approaches; pilot innovative/digital/AI-enabled engagement tools.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years relevant experience (or 8+ with masterβs) in HIV community engagement/advocacy/public affairs or related fields.
- Deep understanding of U.S. healthcare, policy, market access, and drivers of HIV prevention/access/health equity.
- Proven relationship-building with HIV stakeholders; ability to influence in a highly matrixed organization.
- Experience with issues management, corporate reputation, and sensitive environments.
- Strategic, execution-focused; ability to translate insights into actionable advocacy strategy.
- Leverage qualitative/quantitative community insights to shape programs and measure impact.
- Strong verbal/written/interpersonal communication; executive-ready storytelling.
- Strong project management; compliance/regulatory understanding for external engagement.
- Commitment to health equity and inclusive engagement; digital/emerging tools familiarity.
- Passion for public health/HIV prevention; travel ~30%.
- Strong preference for U.S. HIV experience.

Compensation/Benefits:
