Position Overview:
The Associate Director / Director, Total Rewards will build competitive, scalable, employee-centered total rewards and lead compensation, benefits/leave, 401(k), equity planning, and rewards & recognition.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a total rewards strategy to support attraction, engagement, and retention.
- Partner with HR and business leaders to align rewards with performance, internal equity, and culture.
- Translate workforce needs into scalable, fiscally responsible programs.
- Lead compensation plan design/management (salary structures, incentives, market pricing, pay equity analysis, compliance oversight).
- Support equity planning (new hire grants, promotions, refresh cycles, annual planning).
- Support the annual compensation cycle (tools, timelines, manager guidance, calibration, reporting).
- Assist CFO with compensation trend research and executive/board materials.
- Oversee benefits administration (medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D, disability, FSA).
- Own leave administration (FMLA, state leaves, disability coordination).
- Manage 401(k) administration (vendor partnership, testing support, audits, enrollment/education).
- Lead annual benefits renewal (plan design, cost modeling, vendor negotiations, open enrollment, communications).
- Ensure benefits compliance with ERISA/COBRA/HIPAA/ACA (with legal/benefits vendors).
- Own and improve recognition programs (spot, peer, milestone/service awards).
- Advise leaders on total rewards decisions and communications; partner with HRBPs, TA, Payroll, Finance, Legal, People Ops.
- Lead vendor relationships (brokers, carriers, leave administrator, 401(k) provider, surveys, recognition platform).
- Monitor costs/participation/feedback; create scalable documentation/SOPs/governance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelorβs degree required.
- 8+ years progressive experience in Total Rewards/Compensation/Benefits/HR with program ownership in a scaling organization (or equivalent).
- Biotech/life science experience strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Hands-on benefits administration and vendor management.
- Strong compensation experience (benchmarking, job architecture/leveling, annual cycles, sales incentives).
- Equity administration platform experience and stock plan basics.
- Strong analytics and data-to-recommendation skills.
- Cross-functional influence with Finance, Legal, Payroll, and senior leaders.
- Facilitation, program design, and communication skills.
