Position Summary:
The Associate Director, Business Development will collaborate with External Innovation, Commercial, and Finance (and external resources) to review, landscape, identify, and evaluate external assets to support and enhance the Acadia portfolio. Strong analytical/evaluation skills are required, including data gathering/analysis, financial modeling, competitive intelligence, and scientific/commercial analysis in pharma/biotech, plus experience with BD transactions. Responsibilities include identifying/analyzing value of companies/programs, building business cases for BD opportunities, and working with Executive management to implement corporate BD strategies.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Conduct extensive searches to identify and evaluate potential BD opportunities.
- Construct forecasts, recommendations, and strategic/tactical plans based on business data and market knowledge.
- Develop business cases and support BD transactions (scientific, commercial, and financial considerations).
- Identify acquisition and in-licensing opportunities.
- Coordinate search/identification/competitive intelligence and business case development with External Innovation and Commercial teams, which feed into the overall deal package.
- Perform in-depth evaluations interpreting the competitive landscape and financial data.
- Develop/manage complex revenue & cash flow NPV models and support commercial opportunity modeling assumptions; work with Finance on forecasting and deal-evaluation models.
- Maintain awareness of product strategy to assess fit of potential candidates.
- Track emerging healthcare/pharmaceutical industry trends and assess impact on business strategy.
Education/Experience/Skills:
- Minimum 5 years progressively responsible experience in consulting, venture capital, or investment banking focused on valuation and strategic transactions involving therapeutics/companies in pharma/biotech.
- Required: M.D., advanced degree in relevant science (e.g., Ph.D.), or MBA (or equivalent).
- Experience in rare disease and CNS space.
Must Possess:
- Scientific knowledge of CNS/Neurology/Orphan-Rare disease and functional areas of R&D, Clinical Development, and Commercial/New Product Planning.
- Extensive experience building/using Excel-based complex financial models.
- Experience in competitive analysis, market research/analysis, and new product development.
- Microsoft Office expertise (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), with strong PowerPoint skills.
- Excellent analytical, written/verbal, organizational, and communication skills; ability to present recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, work in a fast-paced environment, and balance strategic and tactical thinking.
- Critical thinking with appropriate granularity for executive decision-making.
- Excellent financial analysis/research; ability to translate analyses into strategic recommendations.
- Excellent database skills.
- Ability to travel.
