Animal Technician II (Vivarium)
Job Responsibilities:
- Follow written assignments for animal husbandry in rodents, small and large animals; proficient in animal handling and experienced in restraint for husbandry and clinical care.
- Perform routine husbandry: routine feeding and health assessment; cage changes and room disinfection.
- Provide restraint for husbandry and study purposes.
- Maintain accurate animal records (manual and electronic) and perform receipt, housing, and identification.
- Independently carry out husbandry and restraint duties for dose and sampling; laboratory housekeeping; organize supplies; operate rack and tunnel washer.
- Assist with training peers, ensure completion/quality of daily assignments, and provide feedback on vivarium operations.
- Perform animal care, health, maintenance, security, and safety duties; may require full gowning and strict biosecurity measures (including frequent showering).
- Ensure facilities and equipment operate correctly to maintain proper environmental conditions.
- Maintain assigned animal husbandry records and certify completion through self-inspection.
Education / Certification:
- High school diploma.
- AALAS certification: ALAT (or higher) required before placement.
