Hourly rate range: $23.00–$25.00
The Virus Tech is responsible for growing cells and virus cultures used to manufacture viral vaccines, including cell passages, viral inoculations, viral harvests, and viral inactivations, following SOPs and USDA regulations. May require evening, weekend, and holiday scheduling.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory procedures in an aseptic environment per SOPs and production outlines.
- Prepare media; perform cell passages in roller bottles; conduct daily cell counts/calculations.
- Perform new cell stock freeze-down; pull cells from frozen inventory.
- Maintain virus freezer/cooler inventory; perform monthly environmental air testing and chemical inventory.
- Perform virus antigen production (inoculation, harvest, inactivation).
- Complete batch records/documentation; dispose expired reagents.
- Order equipment/department components; perform lab maintenance, waste disposal, cleaning documentation, and routine equipment monitoring.
- Follow safety guidelines; assist with SOPs and training; perform daily JDE entries; manage schedule/assigned lab work.
- Perform environmental monitoring as required; accurate, timely data entry.
- Recommend equipment/process improvements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Preferred: Bachelor’s in a scientific discipline + 5 years related experience.
- Minimum: Associate degree in a scientific discipline + 3+ years related experience.
Skills:
- Read/analyze English; proficient documentation and organization; basic math; familiarity with scientific notation/metric system preferred; Microsoft Excel.
Physical/Work Environment:
- Stand/bend for long periods; lift up to 30 lbs and maneuver carts up to 110 lbs occasionally.
- Aseptic area; may require sterile gown/TyVek suit and respirator.
