The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role is a field based, customer-facing, non-promotional medical and scientific position within the San Antonio area. The MSLβs key objective is to create impact through advancing clinical practice within the assigned territory that leads to improved patient outcomes. The MSL serves as a scientific expert in HIV treatment and prevention and executes all relevant activities aligned with the medical strategic plan.
Responsibilities:
- Scientific Expertise: Serve as primary point of contact for medical/scientific inquiries; provide advanced scientific and clinical knowledge to internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with external experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals; support scientific discussions and collaborations (including emerging data, clinical trials, patient journey barriers, market dynamics, unmet medical need, pipeline discussions, education on disease state and product, adverse event capture, and lifecycle medical insights).
- Clinical Insights: Gather and relay field insights to inform product development, clinical trial design, and market strategies; provide feedback on products/services.
- Education and Training: Develop and deliver scientific presentations and training; support educational materials and colleague training.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure activities comply with regulatory guidelines and company policies; maintain accurate records.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Mentor/coaching new or less experienced MSLs; lead scientific/strategic projects.
- Safety Communication: Disseminate safety information to healthcare professionals as directed by Medical Affairs or R&D.
- Agility and Adaptability: Interface with internal/external stakeholders including investigators, professional societies, advocacy groups, and formulary decision-makers.
- Clinical Development Support: Assist with clinical development and Investigator Sponsored Studies (ISS); support site performance and provide insights on research interests.
- National Meetings: Attend national/regional scientific/medical meetings.
- Matrix Collaboration: Conduct business with a One-ViiV mindset across matrix stakeholders.
- Administration: Complete responsibilities and training (e.g., Veeva CRM, email, expense reporting) and keep CRM information up to date.
Basic Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, APP)
- 3+ years of clinical experience in HIV
- Stakeholder management experience
- Valid Driverβs License
- Ability to travel 40β60% (car and domestic plane)
Preferred Qualifications:
- HIV field medical experience in the US
- Proven high performance in Field-Based Medical Affairs
- Strong grounding in clinical/medical/pharmaceutical science with ability to rapidly assimilate detailed knowledge
- Experience evaluating and communicating evidence-based medicine; strong scientific communication/presentation skills
- Leadership skills and business acumen; successful project participation/completion
- Excellence mentoring MSLs and leading complex field-based initiatives; cross-functional internal representation; contribution to strategic planning
- Experience engaging effectively one-on-one and in group settings
- Effective communication skills
