Position Summary
The Vice President, Finance, Corporate Accounting and Controlling, reporting to the CFO and a member of the Finance Leadership Team, will have direct responsibility for managing financial risk, guiding decision making, and overseeing SEC reporting, SOX compliance, accounting, accounting operations and audit functions of the organization. The VP, Finance is a self-starter that ensures that financial policies are established and enforced; records are kept in a timely manner and in accordance with GAAP; adequate controls are in place to safeguard and maximize the organization’s assets and in accordance with SOX requirements, and processes are established and enforced to ensure compliance with SEC and other regulatory requirements. Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
These may include but are not limited to:
- Guides corporate financial decision making, in conjunction with Finance Leadership Team, to maximize return on assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Effective, accurate, and timely consolidation and reporting of all financial data in compliance with SEC rules and regulations, according to U.S. GAAP including close collaboration with Investor Relations.
- Lead a team of high caliber professionals and provide sound managerial guidance while also being a great coach and mentor.
- Manage and maintain effective internal controls related to all financial processes to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley 404 requirements.
- Monitor and ensure timely identification of evolving accounting guidance and potential impact on the company; provide interpretation and document issues in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner.
- Oversee the preparation of all domestic and international tax compliance filings and external accounting disclosure requirements with outside preparers and ensure accuracy and compliance in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Manage compliance with government reporting requirements.
- Lead review process of corporate contracts for accounting and tax implications.
- Lead training efforts across the organization around compliance with financial policies and regulatory matters.
- Set, oversee and adjust accounting department talent, processes, and systems to optimize effectiveness and minimize risk.
- Assess systems requirements for the accounting department in support of organizational growth; lead ERP and other accounting systems implementations.
- Oversee preparation and review of monthly financial statements including balance sheets, income statement, shareholder’s equity, and cash flow including consolidation of all Crinetics legal entities.
- Oversee planning and coordination of audits and quarterly reviews; ensure timely and successful completion of financial audits.
- Coordinate with CFO on risk management issues and manage the annual insurance renewal process.
- Work with the CFO and audit committee to ensure compliance with audit committee charter.
- Prepare and present materials to the audit committee.
- Manage relationships with functional departments heads across the organization, staying abreast of strategic needs that may drive changes to financial policies and disclosures.
- Oversee and lead the SEC filings process in connection with equity and debt fundraising activities, including due diligence activities with underwriters and legal counsel.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure that all benefit plans and payroll activities are administered appropriately, including oversight over the administration of the company’s equity incentive plans and employee retirement plan.
Required Education and Experience
- A minimum of 15+ years’ experience in Senior Accounting and Supervisory/Review level.
- 10 years of people management excellence, demonstrating superior leadership skills and a clear track record for people development.
- B.S. Degree in Accounting, or equivalent with a CPA.
- Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical industry experience.
- Corporate controllership experience and leadership.
- Experience with the commercial launch of a pharmaceutical drug.
- Experience with pharmaceutical revenue processes including ASC 606 revenue recognition, gross-to-net accounting, and government price reporting.
- Experience with pharmaceutical commercial stage inventory cost accounting.
- Experience with complex lease, clinical trial, and pharmaceutical partnership technical accounting.
- Management of external audit relationships.
- Equity award administration and accounting knowledge.
- SEC reporting experience.
- Expertise with federal and state tax issues.
- An ability to lead effectively at all levels of the organization.
- Superior judgment and ability to demonstrate adaptability to individual needs while not compromising the highest level of compliance and integrity related to all financial needs of organization.
- Track record of assessing organization needs and implementing policies and procedures with a proven track record of partnership to improve operations.
- Demonstrated success in hiring, engaging, and developing team skills and talents to meet the evolving needs of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and partner in supporting the company’s strategy.
- Exceptional communicator with ability to maintain open communication and simplify complex accounting considerations with internal employees, managers, board members and external stakeholders to facilitate optimum outcomes.
Preferred Experience
- Experience establishing international entities and related intercompany accounting and consolidation and taxation considerations.
- Familiarity with IFRS and statutory reporting.
- Experience with Sunshine Act and transparency reporting.
- Experience with NetSuite, Coupa, and Equity Edge.
Physical Demands And Work Environment
Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Travel
You may be required to travel for up to 10% of your time.
The Anticipated Base Salary Range
$290,000 - $360,000. In addition to your base pay, our total rewards program consists of a discretionary annual target bonus, equity awards, ESPP, and 401k match. We also provide top-notch health insurance plans for employees (and their families) to include medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance, 20 days of PTO, 10 paid holidays, and a winter company shutdown.
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience and education. Crinetics Pharmaceuticals is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
