Position Summary

The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for overseeing the accounts payable (AP) process and managing the Company’s Travel & Expense (T&E) reporting process. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations on all payments to employees, vendors, and suppliers. The position should be focused on optimizing department processes and building lasting relationships with others both internally and outside the Company. This is a hybrid position with the Company’s headquarters located in San Diego, CA.

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities

These may include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee AP and T&E activities to ensure that they are processed timely and accurately.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial, employee, and supplier records.
  • Coordinate the month-end closing process for accounts payable, reconciling accounts, and providing accurate financial data for reporting purposes.
  • Continually assess and enhance the accounts payable procedures, implementing best practices to optimize efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Provide coaching feedback to team members and employees to improve invoice and expense report submissions.
  • Participate in live training for new hires and on-going employee training to emphasize best practices.
  • Perform quality control audits to ensure compliance with Federal Sunshine Act and state law reporting requirements; resolve audit escalations if necessary.
  • Continually assess and enhance the expense reporting process with the Compliance team, implementing best practices and providing additional training to users when necessary.
  • Serve as back-up administrator for expense reporting system.
  • Assist with SOX and compliance audit requests.
  • Commitment to ethical behavior with willingness to adhere to all company policies and current financial regulations.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field; Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., CPA) is a plus.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in AP and T&E expense processing.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Sunshine Act Compliance.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, data analysis, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication: ability to productively interact with others at all levels – within and outside the Finance department.
  • Proven track record of process improvement and implementing best practices.
  • Motivation to develop and maintain internal and external relationships.

Physical Demands And Work Environment

Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Laboratory Activities (if applicable)

Biology and chemical laboratory environment experience needed. Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.

Travel

You may be required to travel for up to 5% of your time.

The Anticipated Base Salary Range

$92,000-$115,000. In addition to your base pay, our total rewards program consists of a discretionary annual target bonus, stock options, ESPP, and 401k match. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience and education.
