Role Summary
The Vice President of Early Commercial Strategy is a key senior function that will report to the SVP of Value & Pipeline commercialization. This role requires a visionary and results-drive leader to lead the strategic development and commercialization planning for our future product portfolio. This senior executive will play a critical role in shaping the company’s long-term growth by identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing new product opportunities across the development pipeline and external innovation landscape. This position is hybrid and will be primarily located at Alnylam headquarters in Cambridge, MA.
Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end strategy for new products from early-stage development through commercialization readiness.
- Develop Target Product Profiles (TPPs), value propositions, and differentiation strategies in collaboration with R&D, Clinical, and Commercial teams.
- Drive disease area strategy, market segmentation, and product positioning based on unmet needs, competitive landscape, and evolving science.
- Collaborate closely with R&D, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Business Development, and Marketing to ensure alignment on product vision and execution.
- Act as the commercial voice in development-stage governance forums and joint decision-making committees.
- Assess emerging trends, market dynamics, and competitive activity to inform pipeline decisions and portfolio prioritization.
- Evaluate strategic implications of evolving regulatory, pricing, and access landscapes globally.
- Contribute to portfolio optimization decisions including asset advancement, prioritization, or termination.
- Develop strategic lifecycle management plans to extend product value and market impact.
- Support business development in identifying and assessing external innovation opportunities.
- Collaborate on due diligence and integration strategies for in-licensed or acquired assets.
- Build / develop high performing team with the right capabilities to support Alnylam’s next phase of growth
Qualifications
- BA / BS degree required; advanced scientific or business degree preferred
- 15+ years of biopharmaceutical or related experience, including global / international team responsibilities
- Experience in drug development and global product registration is a plus
- Deep understanding of, and experience with, global and regional / country product commercialization in highly competitive markets. US market experience is a must.
- Ability to influence cross-functionally and drive alignment within the team, with peers and with senior management. Demonstrable level of executive presence.
- Ability to operate at both the strategic and tactical level, with ability to seamlessly move between both perspectives.
- Proactive “hands-on” individual with collaborative orientation, who manages matrix teams effectively, is very self-motivated and can smoothly establish and sustain strong working relationships within both internal stakeholders
