Role Summary
Vertex Spring 2026 Co-op, Technical Operations, Process Analytical Technology (PAT) βΓΓ¬ 6-month experiential training program for students pursuing undergraduate or advanced degrees in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or related fields. The program provides meaningful experience in technical operations and serves as a launchpad for a career in/process analytical technology within pharmaceutical operations.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute activities and experiments to formulate calibration blends using material sparing techniques and measure them spectroscopically.
- Become proficient in statistical modeling of spectroscopic data. Develop multivariate predictive models (PCA, PLS, etc.) to assess the potency of drug product intermediates.
- Develop new and evaluate existing methods for generating simulated calibration spectra and evaluate their accuracy.
- Support the progress of automated off-line chemometric model assessments.
- Report and present results of work to key stakeholders and leadership.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Science, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or related field.
- Basic computer and MS Office skills.
- Knowledge of fundamentals of vibrational spectroscopies (IR, Raman, NIR).
- Proficiency in data manipulation using Microsoft Excel; comfortable handling large data sets.
- Preferred: knowledge in analytical chemistry applied to small molecule pharmaceuticals; knowledge of oral solid dosage pharmaceutical manufacturing processes and formulations; experience with multivariate data analysis and model building (PCA, PLS, SIMCA); experience with Unscrambler or PLS Toolbox; experience with MATLAB.
- Motivated team player with a willingness to learn new skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; Vertex does not sponsor internships or entry-level roles in this part of the organization.
- Must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2026.
- Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from JanuaryβΓΓ¬June 2026.
