Role Summary
Vertex Spring 2026 Co-op, CGT Process Development role focusing on scaling-up a T1D CPI process within the DS3 scale-up team, enabling tech transfer to VMC and LPO. This is a 6-month experiential program for undergraduate or advanced degree students in Chemical, Biological, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields.
Responsibilities
- Develop a benchtop scale-down model that replicates hydrodynamic and mass transfer conditions of a large-scale bioreactor for the T1D scale-up program.
- Design and perform lab-scale experiments focusing on agitation, gassing, and mixing.
- Work with CO2 probes, DO probes, biomass probes, metabolite analyzers, and other analytical instruments.
- Contribute to the DS3 scale-up effort to enable successful tech transfer to VMC and LPO.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in an undergraduate or advanced degree program in Chemistry, Biological, Biomedical Engineering, or related field; completed coursework in transport phenomena, thermodynamics, reaction design/engineering, and advanced numerical analysis/mathematical methods.
- Ideal for a senior completing a bachelorβΓΓ΄s degree or a graduate student.
- Data science/computer science experience is a plus.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; Vertex does not sponsor internships for this part of the organization.
- Must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before June 2026.
- Must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January βΓΓ¬ June 2026.
