Position Summary
Scientific Software Developer to build software systems powering AI-native drug discovery; partner with discovery scientists to create prototypes, data pipelines, APIs, MLOps/agentic components, and lab automation integrations.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines for chemical/biological/HTE/automation datasets (FAIR compliance; machine-actionable).
- Develop RESTful APIs/microservices for LIMS, ELNs, instruments, data warehouses (Postgres, Redshift, Snowflake), and analytical DBs.
- Improve LIMS and adjacent systems for evolving workflows, security, and scalability.
- Build ML deployment pipelines (tracking, versioning MLflow/W&B, containerized serving, monitoring, retraining).
- Implement model observability (drift detection, performance alerting, lifecycle management).
- Build agent-ready APIs (error handling, audit trails, monitoring), MCP/exposure for AI agents, and support closed-loop experimentation.
- Integrate lab automation, scheduling, and instrument data streams with metadata/traceability; create reusable automation workflow components.
- Prototype dashboards/apps; validate with scientists; hand off mature prototypes to Tech@Lilly.
- Build/operate cloud-native components (AWS/Azure/GCP; Kubernetes/Docker; IaC; CI/CD; orchestration: Prefect/Airflow/Nextflow) and apply DevSecOps (security scanning, code review, automated testing).
Basic Requirements
- B.S./M.S./PhD in CS, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Cheminformatics, Chemistry/ Biology, Biomedical Engineering, or related STEM.
- Scientific software development: BS 10+ yrs / MS 5+ yrs / PhD 1+ yr.
- Python; plus Java/C#/Go/TypeScript/Rust; strong SQL.
- Experience building RESTful APIs, data pipelines, and/or microservices for scientific/technical apps.
Preferred Qualifications
- Biopharma/pharma discovery or automation experience; MLOps tooling; cloud/container/Git.
- AI agent infrastructure/MCP; lab automation + digital platform integration.
- Cheminformatics (RDKit, Schrödinger, MOE) or bioinformatics; data warehousing + standards/ontologies.
- LIMS/ELN (e.g., Benchling) and instrument integration; orchestration (Prefect/Airflow/Nextflow/WDL), CI/CD, Linux/bash; strong learning agility.
