Technical Associate

Role Summary

The animal research Technical Associate supports Poultry in biocontainment and non-biocontainment environments, performing all phases of clinical and preclinical studies related to animal health product discovery and development. Primary site responsibilities are at Zoetis Kalamazoo, MI, with some crossover to the Richland, MI farm site. Requires proper use of equipment and adherence to SOPs and institutional policies. Weekend and holiday work is on rotation.

Responsibilities

• Feeding and caring for Poultry (animal husbandry).
• Cleaning and disinfecting animal areas.
• Assists with study execution including in-vivo protocol review, biological sample collection, and data collection in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Performs animal activities including husbandry, treatments, record keeping, and laboratory/instrument maintenance per Animal Welfare and GXP policies.
• Carries out duties according to protocol and SOPs.
• Utilizes knowledge of functional areas to complete research protocols and communicates with lead technicians, manager, and researchers.
• Assist and support clinical veterinarians with veterinary care.
• Contributes to continuous improvement and shares knowledge within the work group.

Qualifications

• High school diploma + 1–3 years related experience or post-high school education combined.
• Flexibility, enthusiasm, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects.
• Demonstrated math and reading comprehension required.

Desirable attributes

• Associate's degree in related field or 1–3 years related experience or post-high school education combined.
• Previous work in commercial poultry or an animal research setting.
• Previous experience in an in vivo research setting.
• Proven ability to work well in a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Usage of PPE and high level of personal hygiene required.
