Job Description
The QC Lab Supervisor I is responsible for the organization, administration, and supervision of Lab Analysts and other Lab employees. Oversees day-to-day operations by prioritizing shop floor presence. Oversees chemical analysis and release of raw materials, in-process, and final products in compliance with quality criteria while managing deadlines and costs. Ensures effective and efficient utilization of laboratory resources through management of laboratory support activities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing team (hiring, performance expectations, feedback, coaching, problem-solving, and employee matters); monitor training administration and development needs.
- Oversee laboratory group operations (raw materials, finished products, projects/validation samples, and environmental monitoring).
- Identify tests/results requiring attention and implement corrective actions.
- Review and approve data (as applicable to analytical product release based on regional requirements).
- Support laboratory investigations (including out-of-specification results) and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Communicate and present QC Metrics; attend and lead Tier meetings.
- Ensure QC activities follow internal procedures, cGMP, and safety standards; assist in continuous improvement.
- Support analytical/microbial instrumentation; ensure instrument availability via preventive/repair maintenance and material qualifications.
- Assist inspections and audits (GMP/GxP readiness); support supplier/internal/regulatory audits when required.
- May serve as backup to the Lab Manager; generate/manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste per procedures and regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelorβs Degree required (preferably Chemistry, Microbiology, or Biology).
- 2+ years of QC Lab experience.
- Thorough knowledge in chemistry, technical writing, investigations, analytical equipment, and lab operations.
- General knowledge of cGMPs, compendia, and regulations.
- Problem-solving, decision-making, teamwork, influence, negotiation, and conflict resolution; ability to foster an inclusive environment.
- Cross-functional coordination and ability to interpret lab data for effective actions.
- Ability to develop and follow through corrective action plans.
