Position Summary
- Lead systems engineering deliverables in the design of analytical instruments.
- Focus on system-level engineering activities for new and existing products, including requirements development, hardware subsystems integration, systems control through software scripting, system verification testing, automation development, data mining & analysis, characterization, troubleshooting, process development, and design transfer.

Responsibilities & Skills
- Hands-on experience through prototype, alpha, beta, and pilot phases for complex hardware consumable and/or instrument development.
- Lead and influence system-level design.
- Develop and integrate opto-mechanical instruments across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Meticulous assembly/disassembly of instruments, consumables, and fixtures.
- Troubleshoot from system level to low level to identify root cause failure modes.
- Automate/control hardware subsystems for prototype testing using Python or LabVIEW.
- V&V: write system-level requirements, develop test plans, execute tests, and summarize results.
- Communicate effectively across marketing, quality, manufacturing, and field support.
- Support manufacturing and field teams in sustaining existing product lines.
- Project management; lead core teams as a technical representative.
- Coach junior members through design, development, and troubleshooting.

Job Qualifications
- Bachelorโ€™s degree in engineering/relevant field + 10+ yearsโ€™ experience (or Masterโ€™s + 8+ years).
- 10+ years in complex instruments/systems/hardware consumables integrating mechanical/electrical/optical/software components.
- Cross-functional leadership to define system-level requirements and V&V testing.
- Plan/carry out complex test plans and report findings.
- Mentor engineers; strong systems-level thinking.
- Software for automation/data analysis: Python, LabVIEW, PLC, Java.
- Engineering statistical data analysis.
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience.
- Preferred/plus: hardware automation; CAD (Solidworks)/mechanical design; handling reagents in wet lab.
