Role Summary
Senior Scientist, Protein Biochemistry will design, implement, and lead biophysical assessment strategies to support diverse drug candidate modalities. This role will provide matrix-based support for the characterization of novel modalities such as gene therapy agents and oligonucleotides, as well as complex therapeutic strategies and approaches.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and execute biophysical assays supporting developability assessment at different stages of lead characterization.
- Understand current computational biophysics approaches (workflows, software) for in silico modeling of surface properties of antibody-like molecules for in silico profiling.
- Serve as a representative of the department on cross-functional teams with accountability for biophysical characterization.
- Contribute results and analyses for protein or new modality characterization to provide molecular profiles and developability assessments of therapeutic assets, that support the pipeline, in a timely manner and aligned with partner functions.
- Recommending, adapting, and developing analytical methods for protein characterization.
- Review the literature and work with the team to design experiments that solve biophysical problems for key partners.
- Supervise and support scientists with critical data review as well as career development.
Qualifications
- Required: PhD, MS, or BS (or equivalent) in biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field with proven experience in characterization of therapeutic protein candidates.
- Required: Experience developing and troubleshooting analytical methods.
- Preferred: Experience with statistical and experimental design, molecular modeling, graphing, and mathematical analysis software.
- Required: In-depth knowledge of and demonstrated expertise operating biophysical and biochemical techniques such as Light Scattering, SEC, HIC, IEX, Differential Scanning Fluorimetry and/or Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Raman, ROA, and/or FTIR spectroscopy, Analytical Ultracentrifugation, Bilayer Interferometry, and Electrospray Mass Spectrometry.
- Preferred: In-silico modeling skills.
- Preferred: Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare slides and author reports and manuscripts for internal and external presentations, communicating biophysical results to both technical and general audiences.
Skills
- Cross-functional collaboration and ability to present complex biophysical data clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Leadership and mentoring experience for scientists, including data review and career development.
Education
- PhD, MS, or BS in biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
