Sr. Principal - Engineer - Automation (Small Molecule)

Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and delivery of the Emerson DeltaV platform and associated software integration teams for Lilly’s manufacturing expansion.
- Lead one or more automation DCS project workstreams (design, scheduling, staffing, qualification) in the Drug Substance (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) network.
- Collaborate with A&E firms, system integrators, engineering peers, and Tech@Lilly to develop and manage DeltaV DCS system/software design, testing, startup, and qualification.
- Support GMP manufacturing operations post-delivery in small molecule or oligonucleotides.
- Champion a strong safety culture, mentor/coach others, and apply engineering/automation principles to design and problem solving.
Key Deliverables:
- Collaborate to develop requirements/specifications for software architecture.
- Manage system integrators to deliver and test DeltaV software.
- Collaborate to deliver an integrated Automation/MES solution.
- Participate in basic/detailed design, staffing, SOWs, supplier management, and delivery strategies.
- Develop computer system validation strategies.
- Develop/build automation capabilities and procedures for Houston site.
- Provide PSM/PHR engineering support.
- Provide technical oversight for User Requirements and Design Review/Qualification documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
- 5+ years process automation experience; Emerson DeltaV preferred.
- 5+ years API/Drug Substance manufacturing preferred.
- Authorized to work in the United States full-time; no visa sponsorship.
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- Process instrumentation, batch control, analytical/critical thinking, collaboration, influence.
- Data historian and MES/system integration experience.
Additional Information:
- Potential travel <20% (domestic and/or international).
