Organization/Position Overview
Sr. Principal Chemist (AQCO Analytical Sciences Team) conducting non-routine analyses of drug substances, drug products, and non-typical samples suspected of counterfeiting, tampering, or diversion; supports authentication strategy/technique development for pipeline assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform analyses using LC-MS (intact mass, peptide mapping), HPLC, UPLC, spectroscopy, and other analytical techniques.
- Analyze LC-MS data and perform limited structure elucidation (small and large molecules).
- Support non-laboratory product authentication processes (e.g., packaging authentication, variable data verification).
- Collaborate with AQCO colleagues/analytical SMEs to solve complex sample analyses.
- Support special studies from business partners (e.g., Global Security, Legal).
- Develop/validate robust, scientifically advanced methods meeting stakeholder needs.
- Maintain MS proficiency via community/forums; troubleshoot methods/equipment.
- Execute testing protocols per local procedure and regulatory requirements.
- Provide training/mentorship as required.
Job Specific Pre-requisites
- Expertise in separation sciences, spectroscopy, hyphenated mass spectrometry (MS/MSn).
- Proficiency with multiple instrument platforms (Thermo/Agilent/Waters) and software (Chromeleon, Excalibur, Biopharma Finder, Genedata, etc.).
- Ability to handle controlled substances; work with non-technical personnel; manage confidential information.
- Strong independent/team problem-solving and attention to detail.
Basic Requirements
- Minimum B.S. in Chemistry (or related field).
- 5+ years recent bench experience.
Additional Skills/Preferences
- Structure elucidation (small and large molecules); spectroscopic techniques (FTIR, NIR, Raman); Lilly systems (NuGenesis/eLN, Quality Docs, SAP, SmartLab).
- Strong written/oral communication; independent/proactive work; learning agility; knowledge of chemical/peptide/protein synthesis.
Compensation/Benefits (if applicable)
- Anticipated wage: $65,250–$169,400; eligibility for company bonus and comprehensive benefits (401(k), insurance, vacation/time off, flexible benefits, well-being).
