Position Overview
- Sr. Principal Associate – Environmental on the Lilly Richmond HSE team; recognized technical authority for environmental compliance, setting direction for environmental programs and leading site permitting efforts.
- Supports project delivery/startup to build the organization, systems, business processes, and site culture for GMP operations; provides independent compliance oversight post start-up for pharmaceutical API/mAb manufacturing units.
Key Responsibilities
- Own, develop, and lead environmental operational readiness planning (e.g., Title V air, wastewater, refrigerants, RCRA waste, SPCC, DOT/hazardous materials).
- Serve as accountable environmental stakeholder for design, construction, and startup plans to meet deliverables and compliance requirements.
- Develop and roll out environmental programs, procedures, tools, management systems; train, coach, and onboard staff.
- Partner with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to govern change, ensure safety/compliance, and define startup requirements.
- Coordinate and complete internal/external regulatory reporting on time (including second-person verification as needed).
- Provide subject-matter expertise to operational areas to apply regulatory requirements; facilitate program/permit implementation.
- Monitor and interpret emerging regulations and Lilly Global HSE standards; drive implementation plans ahead of effective dates.
- Lead internal HSE assessments; support incident investigations with root cause analysis; set multi-year improvement plans.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing or a GMP-regulated environment.
- Experience applying environmental regulations and developing environmental programs.
- Experience interfacing with HSE-related regulatory agencies.
- Work authorization required in the United States; Lilly does not sponsor visas.
