Role Summary

The (Sr) Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a strategic partner within US Medical Affairs who informs medical practice across Biogen’s therapeutic areas and pipeline to improve meaningful patient outcomes. The MSL engages Key Medical Experts (KMEs) and other healthcare professionals (HCPs) to communicate the clinical and scientific narrative for Biogen’s therapies. The territory for this role covers California, Nevada, and Hawaii, and the successful candidate must reside within the territory.

Responsibilities

  • Be a credible medical/scientific expert who engages with KME and HCP to increase confidence in making the best clinical decisions pertaining to disease state and Biogen’s products for patient care.
  • Focus on building deep, strategic, long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders, viewed as a partner rather than transactional.
  • Be a “partner in the trenches”—be responsive, engage often, and act as a solutions-driven conduit to leaders in the medical community.
  • Engage in projects and/or initiatives aligned to US Medical strategy, objectives, and tactics.
  • Be highly accountable to qualitative and quantitative medical excellence performance goals, standards, and measurements. Deliver against KME engagement plans, navigate resources with field and non-field colleagues, and capture/report KME/HCP medical insights using Veeva with accuracy to inform medical and clinical strategies.

Qualifications

  • Required: Advanced Scientific or Clinical degree; Doctoral (MD, PhD, PharmD, DNP) level degree preferred.
  • Required: Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Medical Science Liaison or similar role within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry for MSL level consideration.
  • Required: Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Medical Science Liaison or similar role within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry for Sr Medical Science Liaison level consideration.
  • Required: Must reside within the territory. (California preferred).
  • Required: Effective communication: concise, confident, credible; empathetic listening and audience-adjusted responses. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Required: Digital potential: comfortable using technology; willingness to learn new tools and systems.
  • Required: Accountability: reliable delivery against goals; motivated to meet/exceed metrics and KPIs.
  • Required: Ethical: adheres to industry rules for the benefit of patients.
  • Required: Ability to travel at least 60% of the time, including overnight and occasional weekends.
  • Required: Must be 18 years or older with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record; authorization to drive a company leased vehicle or rental.
