Role Overview: Lead the end-to-end US payroll function, ensuring accurate, timely, compliant multi-state, bi-weekly payroll processing. Provide governance, compliance, systems administration, controls, and continuous process improvement as the payroll subject matter expert.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end multi-state payroll processing (bi-weekly).
- Process off-cycle payments, bonuses, equity, garnishments, benefit deductions, tax updates, retroactive pay, and leave payments.
- Perform payroll reconciliations; resolve complex issues and ensure balances.
- Ensure compliance with federal/state/local payroll regulations, wage & hour laws, SOX controls, and company policies.
- Maintain controls/governance/documentation; support audit readiness.
- Manage year-end (W-2, tax reporting, reconciliations, regulatory filings).
- Partner with internal/external auditors; drive continuous improvement and automation.
- Lead payroll system enhancements/testing and optimize processes.
- Partner with HRIS/IT/cross-functional teams for integrations, reporting, data integrity.
- Serve as advisor to HR/Finance/Tax/Comp/Benefits/Legal/Internal Audit and business leaders.
- Develop and communicate payroll guidance; handle escalated inquiries professionally.
Requirements:
- Bachelorβs degree in HR, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related.
- 8β10+ years progressive payroll experience leading complex multi-state US payroll.
- Expert knowledge of US payroll, payroll taxes, wage & hour laws.
- Strong SOX compliance/internal controls/audit practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Publicly traded and/or SOX-compliant environment experience.
- Workday Payroll and/or Workday HCM; payroll system implementations.
- CPP certification; OSV experience.
- Advanced Excel; integrity/discretion.
