Position Summary:
Lead the day-to-day implementation and maintenance of Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security/Emergency Response (EHS&S) programs. Serve as the primary site SME for chemical safety and Industrial Hygiene, including development and oversight of a future Hazardous Materials Emergency Response team.
Responsibilities:
- Lead risk assessments, investigations, and corrective actions; provide day-to-day EHS advice; maintain the EHS management system.
- Deliver EHS training/communications; review projects/changes for EHS impacts; drive practical controls into design.
- Monitor EHS performance, prepare reports, and support governance forums.
- Assess chemical/biological hazard risks; evaluate exposure controls and advise on control methodologies.
- Conduct Industrial Hygiene monitoring; analyze data; issue reports; manage exposure monitoring/modeling and chemical safety programs.
- Integrate Industrial Hygiene into capital/minor works projects; identify and manage risks through technical innovation.
- Evaluate compliance with federal/state/local laws and GSK EHS&S requirements; interpret and recommend actions.
- Perform program audits and facility inspections; generate corrective actions.
- Manage key health/safety risks; implement and verify EHS&S programs at the Marietta site; embed GSK standards into operations.
- Implement EHS&S management systems; oversee and direct Emergency Response Team (ERT) operations, training, and preparedness.
- Recommend and develop safety improvement plans based on trends.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent).
- 5+ years EHS&S experience with facility role and hands-on chemical safety/Industrial Hygiene.
- Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910; working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926; familiarity with chemical/biological hazardous materials requirements (e.g., OSHA 1910 Subpart Z).
- Industrial Hygiene risk assessment/monitoring/control expertise.
- Experience with high-risk management, security, and emergency response programs.
- CSP or CIH certification required (or ability to obtain within 2 years); member of relevant professional EHS institution.
- Preferred: chemical/lab/oil & gas/pharma or similar regulated manufacturing experience; incident investigations and corrective action.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CHMM/CSP/CIH; regulated industry (pharma/biotech/manufacturing); environmental permitting/waste/air or wastewater experience; EHS management systems/continuous improvement tools; experience influencing senior leaders; EHS software/data analysis.
