Role Summary
The Sr. Director Marketing Capabilities and Modernization role is a senior leadership position responsible for modernizing marketing across GSK US Commercial. It drives enterprise marketing competencies, sets new standards, builds future-ready skills, and transforms ways of working through partnership with the Marketing Leadership Team, Tech, Insights & Analytics, Sales, and other cross-functional stakeholders. The role requires strong change management to achieve a step change in how U.S. Commercial delivers marketing.
Responsibilities
- Framework Ownership: Develop and continuously improve the GSK Marketing Capability Framework to reflect modern practices and drive measurable business impact.
- Vision & Communication: Lead change with consistent, clear communication of the marketing vision to drive alignment and engagement.
- Change Management Leadership: Design and implement enterprise-wide change management strategies to ensure adoption of new marketing standards and practices.
- Innovation: Champion a culture of innovation by identifying, piloting, and scaling new marketing approaches, technologies, and methodologies.
- AI: Lead evaluation and adoption of AI-driven marketing tools and analytics to enhance campaign effectiveness and operational efficiency.
- Talent Strategy: Define role expectations, proficiency levels, and career pathways; partner with HR and the Marketing Leadership Team to attract, retain, and upskill marketing talent.
- Curriculum Design: Build and deploy live and on-demand learning programs, including external partner-led training.
- Performance Metrics: Track progress using enterprise assessment scores, campaign ROI, brand mROI, MMIx, and customer engagement metrics to drive improvements in marketing effectiveness.
- Agency Partnerships: Proactively partner with key agency partners to educate and embed processes and tools; manage relationships, set KPIs, and drive performance.
- Collaboration & Innovation: Foster collaborative relationships with agencies to accelerate modernization and deliver breakthrough work; ensure integration into ways of working.
- People Leadership & Management: Lead and develop a team of Marketing Capability & Marketing Excellence Directors and subordinates; set direction aligned with Ahead Together goals; develop KPIs; coach and develop direct reports.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelorโs degree
- Required: A minimum of 15 years of commercial experience in the healthcare/pharmaceutical/biotech sector
- Required: A minimum of 10 years of marketing experience across multiple therapeutic areas within a large market in the pharmaceutical/biotech sector
- Required: A minimum of 8 years leading and developing teams
- Required: Experience leading and delivering an enterprise-wide initiative across multiple stakeholders and functions
- Required: Experience leading change initiatives in a function
- Preferred: MBA in marketing
- Preferred: Confirmed track record of meeting and exceeding performance targets
- Preferred: Extensive marketing experience both inside and outside of pharma
- Preferred: Navigate cross-functional dynamics to deliver enterprise-wide initiatives at pace and scale with positive long-term impact
- Preferred: Ability to inspire audiences, convey complex ideas, anticipate challenges, and secure senior stakeholder alignment
- Preferred: Demonstrated success in delivering change within a results-driven environment
- Preferred: Proven record of driving performance across diverse teams and functions
